Discreet Delivery in South Africa: How It Actually Works

5 min readUpdated Written for South African shoppers

For most South African buyers, privacy is the deciding factor — not price. The concern is specific: a housemate signing for a box with a brand name on it, or a shared bank statement with an obvious line item.

Here is exactly how it works at Livio, and what to ask any other retailer before you order.

    What the parcel looks like

A plain box or courier bag with no branding, no product names, no imagery and no indication of the contents. The waybill carries a neutral sender name and a return address only — a courier handling it sees a normal parcel.

Inside, products stay in their retail packaging, which does carry brand and product imagery. If a purchase is a gift and the recipient should not see that either, add gift wrapping at checkout.

    Delivery times across South Africa

Orders are packed and handed over within one business day of payment clearing. Courier Guy then delivers on their Economy Road service:

    • Main centres (Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein): 2-3 business days.
    • Outlying and rural areas: 3-5 business days.
    • A signature is required, so a parcel is never left at a gate or with a neighbour by default.
    • Delivery is free on orders over R500. Below that, tiered volumetric rates apply and are shown at checkout before you pay.

Delivering to a work address or a shared home

Both work fine. The parcel gives nothing away, so a reception desk is a legitimate option and often the most reliable — courier drivers deliver during business hours.

If you are ordering to a shared home, use your own name for the delivery contact and add a phone number you answer. The driver calls before arrival on most routes, which lets you meet them rather than have the parcel handed to whoever opens the door.

What appears on your bank statement

Payments run through PayFast, South Africa's established local gateway. The statement descriptor is the trading name, not a description of the products. Nothing on the statement identifies what was purchased.

Card details never touch our servers — the payment happens on PayFast's side and we receive only a confirmation that it cleared.

    Your data, and POPIA

We collect what is needed to fulfil an order: name, delivery address, contact details and order history. We do not sell or share customer data with third parties for marketing, and we do not need or store your card number.

Under POPIA you can ask what we hold about you, ask for corrections, and ask for deletion once we no longer need the data for legal or tax purposes. Email hello@livio.co.za and we respond within 5 business days.

    Questions worth asking any retailer

    Before you order anywhere:

    • Is the outer packaging unbranded, and what does the waybill say?
    • What does the bank statement descriptor show?
    • Which courier, and what are the delivery times to my area?
    • Is a signature required, and can I redirect to a work address?
    • Who else gets my personal information?

    Common questions

    Is Livio packaging discreet?
Yes. Every order ships in plain unmarked outer packaging with no branding, product names or imagery, and the waybill carries a neutral sender name only.
How long does delivery take in South Africa?
Orders are dispatched within one business day. Courier Guy delivers in 2-3 business days to main centres and 3-5 business days to outlying areas.
What will show on my bank statement?
Payments are processed by PayFast and the statement shows the trading name only. Nothing on the statement describes the products purchased.
Can I have my order delivered to my workplace?
Yes, and it is often the most reliable option because couriers deliver during business hours. The parcel does not indicate its contents, so a reception desk is fine.
Do I need to sign for my delivery?
Yes. A signature is required on delivery, which means the parcel is not left unattended at a gate or with a neighbour.
